Kate's Stacee's Daily Dish, 11.10.1998
By Kate Botello
November 10, 1998
It's a gray, rainy, drizzly day in San Francisco. The sky is
spitting out mean, cold little raindrops that keep landing
square in the middle of my contact lens, making me look like
I'm winking at random strangers on the street. Some of them
wink back.
It is November, after all. As my friend Kim in New York
says, "I don't understand why everybody seems so surprised
when it gets cold in the winter. It's WINTER!" It's winter,
and it's here.
Yesterday, Victoria Recaño plagued my brain for an
entire afternoon with a fragment of an Abba song. She could
remember the chorus of "Mamma Mia," but was stuck on the
verse-- something something, cheating on you, something
something. By evening, I couldn't stand it any more, and had
to dig out my old Abba CD:
I've been cheated by you since I don't know when
So I've made up my mind it must come to an end
There ya go, Vic.
Leo hates Abba with a passion, due to being forced to play
"more Abba than any normal human needed to hear" during his
halcyon days as a DJ. "I'd rather look at my Australian
spoon collection," smirked Leo, "which consists of one
spoon."
Curses, foiled in the meeting this morning! Leo wore
loafers. Alas, no shoelaces to untie.
We just went upstairs with the Moving Czar for a little
"sneak peek" at our new digs. Fancy schmancy! Shelves, and
walls, and everything. Quite a transition from "open
concept" to "cube farm." As much as we Helpsters like to
talk to each other across our desks, a little cone of
silence now and then could be very beneficial. Leo's
priority: room for his endless stuff (manuals, tchotchkes,
hundreds of CDs). My priority: room for my endless art.
Let's see, I think we'll put Wonder Woman on that side, line
the spaces with postcards-- but where do we put the
three-foot drag queen? Still, it's got potential. Throw in
some soft ambient lighting, cushions, a little fabric, and a
hot glue gun and I should have a cubicle to rival Martha
Stewart's. If she has a cubicle. Which she probably doesn't.
BTW, before I go, I'd like to take a moment and say, "Stacee!
Come home! The whole office is falling apart without you!"
We are all pining for Our Humble Researcher, and sending her
our best wishes for her screening at the Hawaii Film
Festival.
Back out to the elements-- thank goodness I have my umbrella
with the Sistine Chapel in the lining. Sometimes we need a
break from the gray.
CUL8R, TTFN, IMHO, LOLROTF,
Thine Cohost,
Kate
